Chilly Dogs Sled Dog Kennel is owned and operated by Jake Hway. A native of Ely, MN, Jake has spent his whole life living in and exploring this wilderness region he calls home. Jake has helped hundreds of people experience the exhilaration of a winter dog sled trip, many for the first time, and is eager to offer this unique opportunity to you. Jake is an Eagle Scout and serves as Assistant Scoutmaster in the Ely Boy Scout troop. He has maintained his training and certification in First Aid and CPR.
As a wilderness guide, Jake has a wealth of knowledge about the natural environment, as well as many stories from his own experiences to share with you. He operates in cooperation with the U. S. Forest Service and holds a U.S.F.S. Guide Permit. Chilly Dogs Kennel has served the Northern Tier High Adventure Base (BSA) on the edge of the Boundary Waters wilderness for a number of years, providing sled dogs, equipment, and expertise for all of their winter programs.
